"Was very pleased to complete a course of treatment that had been interrupted by lockdown- had been expecting to wait a while. A slightly bizarre experience, but as ever, service was excellent and I am very pleased with the outcome. Thank you!"

- What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is the virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth and achieve the smile you’ve always dreamed of.

Using a system of clear, removable aligners, Invisalign is designed to fit around your lifestyle. Easy to wear and simple to keep clean, many of our patients opt for Invisalign as the most convenient method to straighten their teeth.

Invisalign aligners move teeth with an appropriate placement of controlled movement. Invisalign not only controls the amount of movement per aligner, but also the timing of the movement. At each stage, only certain teeth are allowed to move, resulting in an efficient force delivery system that moves teeth into the desired prescribed position.

- How does Invisalign work?

During your initial consultation, we will use the iTero scanner and ClinCheck software to depict your complete treatment plan, from the initial position of your teeth to the final desired position.

You will be able to see images of the proposed result of your treatment, enabling you to visualise how your smile could look – seeing is believing!

If you decide to go ahead with treatment, a series of clear aligners will be custom-made for your teeth to move them little by little. Each aligner is worn for 1-2 weeks before being replaced by the next in the series, gradually moving towards the projected final position.

Your Invisalign treatment time will be determined by your dentist, based on your specific needs.

- What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign aligners are almost invisible. Many of our patients report that their family, friends, and colleagues don’t even notice that they are undergoing orthodontic treatment.

These virtually invisible aligners offer a seamless fit with your lifestyle and day-to-day interactions with others.

Invisalign aligners are removable giving you the flexibility to enjoy your favourite foods and drinks during treatment by simply removing the aligners. You can also take out the aligners to brush and floss as you normally would for fresh breath and to maintain good oral hygiene.

Unlike traditional fixed braces, Invisalign uses no metal brackets or wires. Not only does this mean your orthodontic treatment is invisible, it is also more comfortable. In addition, less time is spent visiting the dental practice for adjustments.

Thanks to the ClinCheck software and our iTero scanner (no messy impressions here!), Invisalign allows you to view your virtual results before you even begin treatment - so you can see how your teeth are expected to look when your treatment is complete.

- Invisalign: Frequently asked questions

  • What are aligners made of and what do they look like?

Invisalign clear aligners are made of strong, medical-grade thermoplastic material, uniquely developed for the Invisalign system. The aligners are custom-made for you and fit snugly over your teeth.

  • How often must I see you once I have started treatment?

In most cases, patients will attend for Invisalign appointments every 4-6 weeks. During this appointment, we will check to ensure treatment is progressing as it should and provide you with your next set of aligners.

  • How long does the Invisalign treatment take?

The total duration of treatment depends on the complexity of the treatment and is individual to your unique needs. Typically, treatment can last between 3 and 18 months. During your initial consultation, your dentist can provide you with a more detailed timescale.

  • Is the Invisalign treatment painful?

Some people may experience temporary, minor discomfort for a few days when they begin wearing a new aligner. This is normal and is typically described as a feeling of pressure. It is a sign that the aligners are working and moving your teeth gradually. This discomfort typically goes away in a couple of days and can be eased with over-the-counter painkillers.

  • What are Invisalign ‘attachments’?

Sometimes small tooth-coloured composites called ‘attachments’ are bonded onto teeth to help achieve certain movements. While you may be able to feel these, you will get used to them quickly and they are extremely discreet and hardly noticeable.
